Start Here

Now is where you write, the Timeline brings moments back, and the Archive holds every record. The home screen is not a complete list. To find a particular record, visit the Archive. You can search this help for topics such as reminders, stationery, or key files. Timesoria is for users aged 14 or over; ages 14–17 require a legal guardian’s confirmation and guidance.

Now · Capture a Moment

Tap Now at the bottom, choose Capture a Moment, and add some words or up to 4 photos. Once saved, the record is readable in the Archive. Starting the following year, it can also return in From Past Years when its date comes around. Text-only and photo-only records are both welcome.

Now · Write to the Future

Write to the Future creates a letter for your future self. Choose an arrival time at least one year away. Its text and photos stay sealed until then and open automatically on the chosen date. It is a letter to yourself, not an email or a message sent to another account. You do not need to keep the app open or have a subscription to read it on time.

Add a voice

Add one audio clip per record, up to 15 seconds and 200 KB. Recording stops automatically at the limit.

In Now, expand Add a voice to record, pause, resume, or finish a clip. Listen to it, then tap Save This Moment or Save for the Future to save it with your text or photos. Finishing a recording alone does not save the record. Tap a blank area to collapse the section when it has no recording.

Audio supplements a text or photo record and never starts recording automatically. Microphone access is requested or used only when you start recording. There is no transcription or voiceprint recognition. Saved audio is encrypted on your device and synced with its record to your own iCloud vault; it cannot be played before a future letter arrives. You can remove a clip before saving. Once saved, audio is deleted together with its record. The developer cannot remotely access or play private recordings. Obtain any necessary permission before recording others; minors should use recording under a guardian’s guidance.

Place

A place is a single line of text you enter, up to 80 characters. No location permission is requested and no device location is read. The place is encrypted and synced with its record, and is hidden until a future letter arrives. Avoid unnecessary home addresses or other people’s private locations.

Stationery · Remembering Your Last Choice

Capture a Moment and Write to the Future each remember the stationery last used in a successful save on this device. Switching between them preserves their separate choices. Discarding a draft or a failed save does not replace your previous choice. With no saved preference, Blank Page is the default. If your last choice needs Plus and you no longer have active access, new records default to the first free option, Blank Page. Existing stationery stays unchanged. Canceling automatic renewal does not end access immediately; it lasts through the paid period.

Timeline · The Order of Returning Moments

A moment returning means it appears on the home screen again; it does not always mean a notification. The Timeline shows Letters Have Arrived, On Their Way, and From Past Years, in that order. If any of these have content, they take priority over quiet-day sections such as Recently Kept. All records remain in the Archive.

Letters Have Arrived

Future letters whose arrival time has passed but which you have not marked Keep in Archive appear here. Even if you miss the day and return months later, they will still be waiting. They do not disappear because you did not read them in time. Quietly kept letters are excluded.

Keep in Archive

Keep in Archive means you have received an arrived letter and put it away safely. It leaves Letters Have Arrived but stays in the Archive. Merely opening it does not mark it as kept. Later, it can appear in From Past Years and anniversary reminders based on the date it was written, not its arrival date. It will not return to the home screen again on the day you keep it or for an anniversary that has already passed this time around.

Anniversaries on the Way · On Their Way

A future letter that has not arrived can briefly appear in On Their Way around the anniversary of the date it was written. You see how many years ago you wrote it, how long remains, and its chosen arrival date, but not its text or photos. No anniversary notification is sent. Like From Past Years, this section covers today and the six preceding calendar dates. For example, a letter written on September 11, 2024 for three years later can appear around its 2025 anniversary: written one year ago, still on its way.

From Past Years · Meeting the Past Again

This section brings back moments and received future letters written on today’s date or the six preceding dates in past years: seven days in all. On September 11, it covers records written on September 5–11 in earlier years, not September 4. The window continues across month and year boundaries. It follows the date written and excludes quietly kept records. Seeing a week of memories does not mean receiving a notification for the same record every day.

Got it · A little space

Swipe a Timeline record in either direction, choose “Got it” from its context menu, or use VoiceOver to tuck it away. A green background follows your swipe. A brief message with Undo appears at the bottom to reverse the latest hide.

Recently Kept takes the three newest eligible moments, then removes those currently hidden. Hiding lasts seven days and does not bring in older replacements. The section may shrink to two, one, or no records. New moments update the three candidates without ending an existing hide early. Expiry restores eligibility, not a guaranteed place. The Archive and other section links remain available.

Hiding an anniversary record in past memories or drifting letters dismisses that entire reunion. It will not return on the final day of the window or as a recent-record replacement; eligibility resumes at the next anniversary, calculated in the record’s original time zone. Arrived letters awaiting Keep cannot be hidden. A hidden future letter still appears when it arrives. Hiding does not delete content or change notifications or Year in Review, and sealed content stays private. The Sent to the Future count summary is not an individual record.

Hide and Undo are saved locally first, then synced as separately encrypted state within the same iCloud vault. Retries retain the original action time. Offline devices or unfinished sync may temporarily differ. Use the latest version supporting these rules and keep the system clock accurate; retry failed sync in Settings. Undo is retained as a new operation, and older replies cannot replace newer local choices. Concurrent operations merge deterministically, with Undo winning equal versions. Changing the account or key, or resetting the vault, keeps old state out of the new vault. Unlike Keep Quietly, this does not permanently turn off reunions.

Recently Kept · A Place for New Moments

When there are no arrivals, anniversaries of sealed letters, or moments from past years to show, you see up to 3 recently saved moments with short text and photo previews. This is not a separate storage location and does not mean only 3 records are saved. Tap to read a full record; the rest are in the Archive. Quietly kept records do not appear here.

Sent to the Future · Look Back on This Year

On days with no returning moments, Sent to the Future shows how many future letters are waiting and the next arrival time. Tap to open the waiting list in the Archive; no text or photos are revealed early. If this year has eligible records, Look Back on This Year opens Year in Review. If all your records are quietly kept, the home screen gently says Your moments are at rest.

Archive · Search and Dates

The Archive holds every record, including quietly kept ones. Search available text, filter by type or date written, or find future letters by their arrival date. Awaiting Arrival means that time has not come yet. Unarrived text and photos cannot be viewed early, and their text is excluded from search. If a record seems missing, clear the search and date filters, then check sync status.

Keep Quietly · Let It Resurface

The record stays in the Archive, but will not appear in the Timeline, Year in Review, or reminders.

Its text and photos are tucked away in the Archive list. Open the record whenever you choose.

Choose Let It Resurface in the record’s menu whenever you are ready.

You can turn this on while writing in Now, or choose it from an existing record’s menu. It is free and does not expire automatically. It does not delete the record or mark a letter as received. It hides the list preview; it is not an additional password lock.

Quiet Future Letters Across Devices

Keeping a future letter quietly does not change its arrival date. It still opens on schedule and counts toward the free waiting allowance until it arrives. Let It Resurface restores future appearances and reminders, but does not resend missed notifications. This choice is encrypted and synced with the record. It takes effect on other devices when they receive the change; unsynced devices may temporarily show an old card or retain an old reminder.

Anniversary Reminders · On This Day

This is the first of two notification types. Moments and received future letters use the time zone in which they were written to determine their anniversary. One combined reminder is scheduled for the first 9 a.m. in the device’s local time after that anniversary begins. Across time zones, the device’s date may be a day earlier or later, but the reminder never precedes the anniversary window. Letters received during this anniversary are excluded. Sealed letters and quietly kept records are excluded, and missed reminders are not sent later.

Arrival Reminders · Letters Have Arrived

This is the second notification type. Future letters are announced only on their chosen arrival day. Multiple arrivals on one day are combined into a single reminder, sent when the last letter for that day arrives. Missed arrivals do not trigger catch-up or repeated daily reminders, but the letters remain on the home screen until you keep them. Quietly kept letters are excluded. Each device sends at most one notification of each type per day, or two when both types occur.

Turning On Reminders · Do They Need Updating?

Enable App Reminders in Settings and allow system notifications. The app schedules reminders on your device in advance; the system displays them at eligible times without the app running continuously in the background. Opening the app, saving, receiving, deleting, or changing Keep Quietly updates the schedule automatically. You usually do not need to tap Update Reminder Schedule. Use it to retry after a scheduling failure. To change notification permission, sounds, or previews, tap Manage system notifications in Settings to open system Settings.

If a Reminder Does Not Arrive

Check notification permission, Focus, and Scheduled Summary, then open the app to update records and reminders. The app maintains a rolling schedule of up to 60 combined notifications in time order, not every future year at once. If you do not open the app for a long time, later reminders may not yet be scheduled. Each device schedules independently, rather than sharing one notification across the entire iCloud account. Missing notifications do not prevent reading on schedule. The system may delay or suppress a notification, and missed reminders are not resent.

Year in Review · Stationery · Cards · Themes

Year in Review organizes available records by the year written, excluding sealed and quietly kept content. You can review the current year without waiting until December. Stationery is saved with each record. Memory Cards change the photo-and-text layouts in From Past Years and Letters Have Arrived, not recent-record previews or sealed cards. Themes change the app’s backgrounds and colors. Year in Review styles change how a year is arranged and presented. Theme and layout preferences are local and may differ between devices.

Free Allowance & Timesoria Plus

The free plan allows up to 12 future letters awaiting arrival at a time. A letter frees its slot as soon as it arrives; you do not need to keep it first. Moments are not subject to this limit. Plus offers unlimited waiting letters, more stationery, Memory Cards, Year in Review styles, and themes. If access expires, existing content stays safe and opens on time; reading and deletion remain available. New future letters pause while 12 or more are waiting and become available again below 12 or with an active subscription. Existing letters are never deleted merely because merging offline devices puts you over the allowance.

Subscriptions · Restore Purchases · Expiry

Open Timesoria Plus in Settings, then Subscriptions & Access to buy, restore purchases, redeem an offer code, or manage your subscription. The App Store confirmation sheet shows the final price, currency, and billing period. Canceling renewal keeps access through the paid period. Offer codes are verified by the App Store; whether a free period renews afterward is shown by the App Store when you redeem, and you can cancel anytime in Manage Subscription. When access ends, stationery on saved records, your selected theme, and your memory-card style remain. Year in Review defaults to the free Chronicle style, and new records follow the free-stationery rules above. Choosing other Plus styles requires an active subscription. If access is missing on a new device, check the network and your Media & Purchases account, then choose Restore Purchases. There is no need to buy again.

Two Accounts · iCloud and Purchases

Your vault belongs to the iCloud account signed in on the device. Your subscription belongs to the Apple account used for Media & Purchases. These may be different. The same purchase account can restore access on multiple compatible devices, but this does not share records between different iCloud accounts. The app does not require a separate account registration.

Offline Use · Waiting to Sync

Initial setup, reinstallation, a new device, or an iCloud account change requires an online check of the vault and key. A verified device that still holds the correct key can read downloaded records and add content offline. Changes are encrypted and saved locally first, then sync is attempted automatically when a connection is available. Waiting to Sync means iCloud has not confirmed the changes, so other devices may not see them yet. You do not need to stay on the same page. Do not uninstall before syncing finishes. If the local account cannot be verified or the key is unavailable, an online check is still needed.

Vault · Decryption Key · Key File

The vault is your current iCloud account’s encrypted space in timesoria. Each account uses one decryption key, kept in the system Keychain. A key file is a copy of that key protected by a password you choose. It contains no records or photos and is not a content backup. Keep the file and its matching password safe and separate. The developer cannot replace your lost key or reset a key-file password.

New Devices, Reinstallation, and Key Files

Sign in to the original iCloud account, enable iCloud Passwords & Keychain, and open the app online. If the system has synced the correct key, the app can verify it and open automatically. Otherwise, import the original key file and enter its password. When encrypted content already exists, the app does not simply create a replacement key. The Passwords app does not automatically provide a private key that Timesoria can import, though you may use it to store your key-file password. A key file cannot move another iCloud account’s database into the current account.

Verify Key File · Save Current Key File

Verify Key File checks whether the selected file and password match the decryption key currently in use. It does not replace the key or import records. Save Current Key File backs up the same key again, with an optional new password for that copy. Old files keep their original passwords. In English, the file name is timesoriaKeyFile followed by the date saved, such as timesoriaKeyFile20260913; the system adds the extension. Keep the extension. Files undergo format and password checks, so renaming an invalid file cannot make it a valid key.

iCloud Storage Full or Connection Unavailable

Initial setup must write vault information to iCloud. If that fails, the reason is shown and writing remains unavailable until setup completes. On an already working device with enough local storage and a valid key, records can still be saved locally while uploads wait. Restore your connection, free iCloud space, or manage your storage plan, then retry in the app. Keychain sync and iCloud content storage are separate operations; full storage alone does not prove that a key is missing.

Deleting Records · Reset and Erase Content

Individual records can only be deleted from a record’s menu in the Archive. The Timeline no longer offers Delete. Deleting a record is saved locally first, then applied to iCloud after a successful online account check. It cannot be undone. Reset and Erase Content clears the current vault after a separate warning and confirmation, showing progress as it works. Stay connected and do not leave the app. When complete, return to initial setup and save a new key file. If interrupted, some content may already be deleted; reconnect to continue. This does not cancel a subscription or delete key files saved elsewhere. If a key is missing, first try the original account and Keychain recovery before deciding to give up your content.

Dates and Photos

The date written and its anniversaries follow the time zone where the record was created. February 29 returns on February 28 in non-leap years. Reminders use the current device’s local dates and times, so display and reminders may differ when traveling across time zones. Future letters open according to the device clock; keep it accurate. Photos are stored as compressed copies with a longest edge of up to 1600 pixels. Originals in Photos are not changed. Keep important originals separately.
